STRIKE [Mar. 21st, 2006|03:47 pm]
Georgian College

I was just wondering how everyone is coping with the strike. What are you doing to keep busy? What are your plans for when/if you go back? Will the strike mess up anything for you in your immediate future? (IE: summer placement, etc)

Your thoughts?

i was absolutely flipping out for the first week or so, but i started going to the gym regularily and doing my schoolwork in the library to keep busy.
i don't have any specific plans for the summer, so i'm not too worried about that part.

but seriously: in the first week, i watched the entire series of sex & the city because i didn't have the motivation to actually do anything. alll six seasons. it was awesome.

Sounds like fun!

my placement got cancelled, and since i work at the tims there and it's closed, I got laid off, and now I'm sitting at home waiting for school to start again.

However, my mom has gotten me working where she works while i'm home, so I'm making better money here than working at tims!

I love it! seriously! Strikes are okay with me. The teachers get what they want, and that is what is most important. I know it's REALLY bad for anyone who is not from the surrounding area (I'm from Newmarket so, 30 minute drive? big deal!!), but for me to be upset at all is rather selfish. It is not deniable that across Ontario, compared to other teaching groups, aka universities, college teachers are treated like punk at a hardcore show: not good.

I'm sooo bored. I work at the Den at the Orillia campus... so since the campus is dead it isn't even open. So yah... I'm out of work until we go back - which really sucks. I'm in Police Foundations, so the fact that the course is going to be condensed is a real bummer because everything we are taught is so vital to us - I'm not too sure what my teachers are going to cut out, so I'm pretty worried about that. Also, in my fitness class we do a lot of testing, such as the OPP physical fitness test, along witha few other things, and as a result of the strike we aren't going to be able to fit all of it in for the rest of the year - extended or not. So I'm definately getting screwed that way too. I'm not pleased about the strike what-so-ever.

Ok I know that strikes bad, but in a way im jealous. Im in University till my georgian program next year. But my two roomates have been home doing nothing but work the odd day, drinking most nights and not having to worry about waking up at any time unless they feel like it. Bah no fair!

In a way its affecting me already tho. I had a meeting at college, which was of course canceled because the person I was going to have an interview with, is on strike. THey even wrote in their voicemail, that they wouldnt even check messages :O

Viva la revolution!!!
